Abstract

User engagement (UE), a priority for product and service design in various contexts, has been a topic of discussion in information technology literature for the past two decades. A critical challenge has been to increase, evaluate, measure, and understand factors that affect engagement. We conducted an umbrella review of published literature reviews focused on UE with technology to provide an overview of and determine gaps in this literature. The main findings that emerged from our review are three research themes: UE strategies, relationship between UE and other factors, and UE measurements.
