Information Technology for Development

Abstract

Challenged by the surging technological developments and the demands of modern information systems. Mauritius introduced its first computers in 1968, into both the public and private sectors. These systems were used mainly for economic advantages in medium and large organizations for the automation of repetitive clerical functions and for production of control reports for management. This situa tion has not developed much until recently, when people started to recognize the potentially major contribution of information technology to productivity gains and financial success. The new situation creates conditions for computer manufacturers to develop their business in the country. Parallel to the introduction of business systems there has been a boost in the introduction of associated educational and training materials.
