Description
Looking through the value creation and value co-creation (VCC) lens and taking a relational view, this paper uses the qualitative case study methodology to get an in-depth understanding of VCC in the implementation and use of Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems. The spirit of this study is discovery. By gathering value co-creation perspectives of different business firms that have adopted a single EHR system, this paper empirically identifies: (1) the key values reciprocally co-created and recognized in a multi-firm EHR environment, and (2) critical challenges facing the implementation of EHR systems in such environments. Based on the study results, this paper proposes a conceptual framework highlighting five value co-creation dimensions in the EHR, namely system & data, information, process, relationship, and regulation. Keywords: EHR, Health IT, value creation, value co-creation, value network, relational view, case study
