Abstract
Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) is emerging as a transformative technology in Business Process Management (BPM), enabling improvements in automation, optimization, and decision support. This systematic literature review examines the current state of GenAI in BPM, analyzing key applications, challenges, and opportunities. Our findings reveal that GenAI is being used for process mining enhancements, workflow automation, and AI-driven optimization, yet adoption challenges remain regarding explainability, trust, and integration with existing BPM systems. We highlight practical applications and outline future research directions to enhance real-world applicability.
