This minitrack focuses on the transformative potential of intelligent technologies in addressing global challenges, from enhancing healthcare systems (e.g., improving patient outcomes and streamlining operations) to promoting eco-friendly innovations (e.g., reducing carbon footprints and optimizing resource use) and fostering inclusiveness (e.g., empowering marginalized communities). By examining the intersection of technology, society, and sustainability, we aim to highlight how advancements in intelligent technologies can contribute to a more equitable, resilient, and thriving world. In line with the conference’s overarching theme, this minitrack invites papers investigating the development, implementation, and impact of intelligent technologies in building a better future. We define intelligent technologies broadly to encompass not only AI — described as “the frontier of computational advancements that references human intelligence in addressing ever more complex decision-making problems” (Berente et al., 2021), but also business intelligence and analytics — defined as “techniques, technologies, systems, practices, methodologies, and applications that analyze critical business data to help an enterprise better understand its business and market and make timely business decisions” (Chen et al., 2012), and smart technologies, which “combine AI and innovative technologies (e.g., the Internet of Things, soft robots, image and voice recognition, blockchain mechanisms, unmanned vehicles)” (Yang et al., 2021). We welcome diverse contributions, embracing a wide range of philosophical perspectives and methodologies, from conceptual and ethnographic to analytical, empirical, and design-based approaches.
