Abstract
This study aims to analyze the importance of Business Intelligence and its tools in the current context of competitiveness among organizations. With the advancement of competition, the necessity for information has grown, leading organizations to invest in a specialized area in this sense, which is the area of Business Intelligence. Through the analysis of results considering successful cases of the implementation and use of BI (and its tools) in twenty different corporations, as well as the opinions of five professionals in the area, it was possible to identify a close relationship between Business Intelligence and increased competitiveness. in organizations, mainly because it is a fundamental source for strategic decision making. In addition, it was also discussed what are the main obstacles and minimum requirements to implement a BI department in a company and if its implementation is independent of the size of an organization or the sector that is inserted.
