Abstract

Providing quality care for aging population and improving seniors’ wellness while trying to reduce healthcare delivery cost is a very considerable challenge that healthcare systems are facing. Mobile technologies for health have potential to manage these challenges through facilitating delivery of healthcare services and fostering users’ empowerment and engagement in their wellness management. Empowering the elderly and focusing on person-centered care delivery are expected to provide a measurable impact on their wellness. However, little is known about the contribution made by mobile Health applications in seniors’ wellness management in terms of improving physical, mental, and social well-being. In this study, through applying concepts of theory of planned behavior, social support theory, and based on previous insights in information systems and health disciplines as well as users and experts’ perspectives we propose a theoretical framework that informs the development of a mobile Health application for improving seniors’ wellness.
