Description

This paper explores how an activity object serves to promote the mobilization and coordination of knowledge for spurring crowdsourced digital innovation. After reviewing the literature, I develop two hypotheses to investigate the role of an activity object in knowledge mobilization and knowledge coordination. By using a mixed-methods research approach, this study suggests that an activity object is able to promote the mobilization and coordination of knowledge for creating digital innovations through triggering expansive learning, directing and motivating crowdsourced communities. Hence, my paper makes one contribution: it identifies the independent, active role of an activity object as a trigger for expansive learning and, a director and motivator, contributing a new understanding of the interacting roles of material artefacts and humans in crowdsourced digital innovation. \
