Description

This study was carried out to find out the factors that could predict the use of technology in higher institutions of learning. Data was collected from three Universities (state, federal and private) in Nigeria. Drawing from the Social Learning Theory (SLT) and Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) model, and the key factor of Technology Culturation, a model was developed to explain predictors of educational technology usage in universities in Nigeria being the country with the largest number of universities in Africa. \ \ The study used PLS-SEM to examine the pattern of inter-correlation among the constructs as well as the level of significance. Cross-sectional Survey research method consisting of 800 respondents who were undergraduate students from the three selected universities named University X, University Y and University Z in this study were used. Samples were drawn through the accidental sampling technique. \ \ The research would help top management officials in Nigerian universities with regards to investment decisions; it will guide them on the type of technology to invest on in order to enhance learning based on the investigated factors. \ \ Findings from this research show that the factors of technological culturation, students’ skills, social influence and performance expectancy all have significant effect on users’ behavior to use a technology were also found to have positive effects on technology usage. However, result shows a negative effect of students’ attitude on the use behavior of students to technology, that is to say that an increase in student’s attitude will lead to a decrease in use behavior. However, this is a very small effect in explaining the attitude of students to technology usage. This article opens doors to future researchers to investigate other factors that were not considered in this study. \ \
