Description
The role of Information system (IS) leadership is critical to ensuring the success of IT projects and achieve the organizational goals. As such IS leadership presents great opportunities for IS related research. This paper presents preliminary findings from an exhaustive literature survey of IS leadership research from 2001 onwards, focusing on top journals and conferences in the IS field. We identify what IS leadership research is going on and its foci. Our findings document lack of research interest in various aspects of IS leadership in the top IS journals and conferences. Finally, we present a conceptual framework based on the contributions from the last 17 years of research. These findings provide a good summary of past and present IS leadership research and will help guide researchers interested in further study of the IS leadership phenomenon.
