Description
The study of various persuasive techniques is an important research area in Information Systems as it contributes to developing applications targeting behavioral changes. Storytelling is one of those persuasion techniques and, in this study, is associated with virtual avatars as narrators. Both of those tools are present in various research individually or together. However, through all those research, we observe a lack of measurement tool evaluating their persuasive effectiveness. In this research, we present a methodological study in which we first analyze the current literature to define a set of items that can be used to evaluate this persuasion technique. Then, through a set of surveys and factor analysis, we define a set of components representing various attribute of storytelling and virtual narrators. From there we develop a model and a questionnaire that can be used as measurement tool to evaluate the persuasive effectiveness of storytelling via a virtual narrator.
