Description

Decision Support Systems (DSSs) are a long-studied phenomenon in Information Systems (IS) literature. On the other hand, Business Intelligence (BI) is a relatively youthful topic that some argue is related to DSSs. In this research, we seek to explore similarities and differences of DSS and BI topics through text analytics. Specifically, we analyze abstracts from top IS journals to identify trends with the intent of adding to the conversation about similarities and differences between DSS and BI tools. To contribute to research, we hope to identify similarities that could potentially help discover DSS theories that might be applicable to BI settings, as well as theories that could be updated based on differences with BI. Practically, there are we intend for this research to help practitioners identify differences and similarities with DSS and BI tools that might be applicable in their settings.
