Description
Management Information System (MIS) is a relatively young and interdisciplinary field with its eclectic structure. Although MIS gathers researchers from various backgrounds and disciplines, as a developing country Turkey has not been able to acquire the advantages of the field yet. There is still lack of studies which aim to enlighten current status of MIS in Turkey or give a significant contribution to the literature. In this study we investigated the characteristics of MIS research in Turkey between 1999 and 2016 by means of a descriptive content analysis. In the way of accomplishment, 380 MIS related articles were scanned by five different PhD students approximately for 6 months. Articles were analyzed according to their main subjects, methods, data sources and departments of the authors in order to find out the general tendency and to reveal the profile of MIS research in Turkey. Even popularity of subjects followed a similar pattern with the foreign literature some distinct features especially associated with the methodology of researches and irrelevant backgrounds of researchers were discovered.
