Abstract

The terms project success and system success are encountered frequently in discussions of the success of information systems projects. In this article, we address three issues related to the terms. First, we review the definitions of the two terms in literature to highlight the commonalities and differences between them. Second, we explore the relation between the two. Third, we describe a proposed study to explore the conditions under which the two successes covary and the conditions under which the two conditions are at variance with each other. This research-in-progress article is the beginning of an effort to shed light on how the stakeholder perspectives of success may influence ultimate outcome of an information systems project.
