Abstract
This paper outlines our ongoing efforts to conceptually develop an approach for learning complex concepts through concept combination. The approach described in this paper has been operationalized in the form of an evolving prototype system. At present, the complex concept learning process is limited to adjective- noun concept combinations with the adjective component limited to predicating adjectives and the noun component limited to physical objects. We have demonstrated the validity of our approach by showing that the performance of the prototype system is in line with existing psychological evidence related to learning of adjective- noun concept combinations by human beings.
