Abstract
Nowadays, with increasing number of Internet users and its commercial character subsequently bring in proportionate number of criminal minded network security threats. Among various of malicious programs, the botnet is considered as one of the most critical issue for the current worldwide Internet users. Unfortunately, existing techniques for detecting botnets- especially cross-site scripting (XSS) botnet- are insufficient and have significant shortages. In this paper, we intend to present an overview of botnets detection; define XSS-based botents; and, examine propagation methods, infection rates, and potential impact. Most importantly, this paper suggests an approach for simulation of exploring XSS-based botnet detection mechanisms.
