Description
Drawing on contingency theory, this study analyze the effect of industry IT strategic role on the level of IT governance implementation. Specifically, this paper takes a COBIT 5 perspective, by analyzing differences in implementation level at the level of the five COBIT 5 process domains within automate, informate, and transform industry sectors. The results indicate that industry IT strategic role is an important contingency factor to consider when implementing IT governance. Therefore, a different industry IT strategic role context might require a different IT governance approach. Our findings are consistent with the view that firms which are highly digitizable and continuously explore the potential of IT driven innovation will warrant a high degree of IT oversight and strategy setting.
