Abstract
CASE tools are information technologies which use can have a positive impact on development productivity and software quality. From the results of an empirical study, this paper shows however that this impact is not systematic and suggests four critical factors of success resorting to a CASE tool for the realisation of business applications : the actors implication in the choice process of the new tool, the rigourous and practical training of the user's concerning the new technology and its related development methodology, the existence of a champion of the new technology and the learning of the tool on pilot projects and its progressive use on real projects.
