Abstract
In the next 5–10 years advances in information technology and telecommunications will continue to impact on all aspects of society. This will lead to a more efficient and perhaps effective way of life, but a price over and above any financial consideration will have to be paid for these developments. The essential question for today is what kind of society do we want to create for ourselves. We have to be particularly aware of the potential for unintentional consequences of the siliconization of our society.
