Abstract

Patient involvement in healthcare has been proposed to enhance patient management outcomes and improve patients’ adherence to care plans. Personal health records (PHR) are important tools to enable patient involvement. However, PHR have many challenges that negatively affect their efficacy and use by patients including privacy issues and data quality issues. These challenges are difficult and expensive to address. In this paper, we propose to use blockchain technology to overcome PHR use challenges and to maximize patients' benefits from PHR. we propose a system based on private blockchain technology that will allow care providers to select only the data they need for patient management while maintaining the security and privacy of patients' data. In the next phases of this research, we will develop a prove-of-concept assess system efficacy and its performance metrics.
