Description

An organization’s innovations with and innovative use of information technologies can help steer the evolution of its business and is seen as critical for its competitive success. Given the importance of information systems (IS) innovativeness, this study explores and assesses factors that facilitate or enable organizations to take a strategic IS innovative approach. Responses from a sample of over 200 CIOs suggest that an organization’s support for IT and the CIO’s power are key factors to enabling the conscious and continuous pursuit of strategic IS innovations. CIO expert power can directly facilitate IS innovativeness while CIO structural power indirectly facilitates IS innovativeness through the ability to acquire organizational funds for IS innovations.
