Description

A firm’s process agility is an important enabler of new business models and of its ability to execute business strategies. The best practices built into ERP systems can enable that agility, but research suggests they also can be constraining and inflexible. Also, firms face a lack of relevant and timely information about their environment, and have to deal with uncertainty in their decision processes. In this context, ERP systems can help a firm discover and anticipate changes through business intelligence data gathering and analysis. While there is a rich body of literature on ERP adoption and implementation, there is limited research on the post-implementation effects of ERP assimilation on process agility, business intelligence maturity, and innovation. To that end, we examine the impact of ERP systems on a firm’s business process agility and its BI maturity, and how these two factors influence both radical and incremental innovation performance.
