Abstract

The Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) is offering an extremely valuable tool across a broad range of ICT based (web and mobile) applications. This creates opportunities for regional and international technological advances in the areas of positioning and location-based services. GNSS technology provides opportunities for developing countries to take advantage of applications that improve the quality of life, social, economic progress and support priorities for sustainable development. Therefore, it is the objective of this paper to highlight some of the challenges facing in Sub Saharan Africa towards the realization of GNSS technology in the three chosen African countries namely, Cameroon, Gabon and Senegal. The identified applications qualified by an IDEATION process shall be used to perform market analysis and will serve as input to build business case of the most promising applications. The final goal is to setting up GNSS Living Lab in Dakar to serve the sub-saharan countries’s interests.
