Abstract
Qualitativeresearchattemptstounderstandthecomplexitiesoftheunstructurednatureofinformationsystemsimplementations.Thislackofstructureisprimarilyduetothecomplexinteractionsbetweensocialandtechnologicalfactorswithinbusiness.Qualitativeresearchintheseareascanprovideinsightsintowhyinformationsystemsimplementationshavenotbeenassuccessfulasprojectedandcanprovidealternativesolutionstomanyissuesassociatedwithpolitical,socialandgenderaspectsoforganisations.Thechallengesfacingqualitativeresearcharemanyandvaried,fromthedifficultyingainingaccesstoorganisationstoconcernsaboutthevalidityofthetechniquesandthegeneralisabilityoftheresults.Theseriesofpapersshownhereattempttoaddresssomeoftheseconcerns
