Description
A disruptive innovation creates a new market and eventually disrupts an existing market. Few IS research has systemically studied disruptive innovation diffusion, and little is known regarding what challenges disruptive innovations are facing during the process. To fill the research gap, we aim to understand challenges disruptive technologies face from their invention to a tipping point of drastic growth. In the preliminary study, we use grounded theory to build the framework by analyzing two examples of disruptive innovation - Uber and Bitcoin. We proceed to use a text mining facilitated grounded theory to analyze more disruptive innovations over a longer period of time. To the best of our knowledge, it is the first work that use grounded theory with the facilitation of text mining techniques. This paper contributes to the research area of disruptive innovation, and the text mining facilitated ground theory method makes a research method contribution.
