Abstract

There is a clear understanding of how value is co-created in platform ecosystems; however, there is limited understanding of how this co-created value is actualized. We argue that grasping the concept of value actualization within platform ecosystems is essential for addressing the needs of users who lack the necessary skills and technologies. In this research, we aim to explore how complementors create learning systems that assist users in actualizing value within platform ecosystems. Using the Ghanaian FinTech ecosystem as a case study, this research draws on a learning systems lens, qualitative interviews and observations with FinTech service complementors and users. Our goal is to propose a process model of value actualization in FinTech platforms, thereby laying a strong foundation for significant contributions to the literature and practice surrounding platform ecosystems, value actualization, and FinTech.
