Abstract
The urgent need to safeguard our collective past in the face of digital-age challenges demands innovative solutions (Trček, 2022). Harnessing the revolutionary power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for analysis and restoration, alongside the secure and transparent blockchain infrastructure for immutable record-keeping, this talk introduces ChronoMind: An Intelligent Preservation Ecosystem. This novel framework explicitly recognizes and harnesses the powerful synergy between these two previously disparate fields to create more intelligent and resilient archival systems. ChronoMind moves beyond the independent application of AI and blockchain, positing a future where their deep integration creates a holistic approach to historical preservation. AI's analytical capabilities enhance the functionality and trustworthiness of blockchain-secured historical data, while blockchain provides a secure and auditable foundation for AI-driven preservation processes. This talk will explore the ChronoMind framework and dissect its potential applications. Imagine AI algorithms automatically authenticating historical documents recorded on a blockchain, or AI analyzing blockchain-secured artifact provenance data to flag potential inconsistencies. Also, consider how AI can enhance accessibility through intelligent summarization and translation of blockchain-secured archives, and how machine learning can optimize the long-term management of historical data on decentralized ledgers. To guide the development and evaluation of the ChronoMind framework, we propose the following key research questions: • Enhanced Authentication & Provenance: How can AI algorithms be integrated with blockchain to automate and significantly improve the accuracy and efficiency of historical artifact authentication and provenance tracking? • Intelligent Data Analysis & Insight Discovery: What role can AI play in analyzing large-scale, blockchain-secured historical datasets to uncover previously unknown patterns, connections, and insights that enrich our understanding of the past? • Optimized Accessibility & Engagement: How can AI-powered tools enhance public accessibility and engagement with blockchain-secured historical content through intelligent search, summarization, translation, and immersive experiences? • Robust and Ethical Governance: What governance structures and ethical guidelines are necessary for the responsible implementation of AI and blockchain within historical preservation, balancing algorithmic efficiency with human expertise and cultural sensitivity? • Scalable and Sustainable Infrastructure: What technical architectures for AI-blockchain interoperability are most scalable, energy-efficient, and sustainable for long-term historical preservation efforts? Or aim is to foster interdisciplinary collaboration among information systems researchers, historians, AI specialists, and heritage professionals by addressing these research questions within the ChronoMind framework. Critically examining this integration's technical and ethical dimensions, we envision a future where AI-enhanced blockchain technologies create a more intelligent, democratic, and enduring ecosystem for preserving our shared human history. The ChronoMind framework, therefore, represents a crucial convergence of expertise and technology to meet the evolving challenges of historical preservation. References Trček, D. (2022).
