Abstract
Nyman et al.’s paper ‘From Algorithmic management to Data-driven Labour Organising’ (in this issue) is a welcome discussion about challenges from current technology development to the Scandinavian design traditions emphasizing user participation in design. Digitalization changes work places and societies, often due to innovations in technology (often abroad) or social structures. Moreover, digitalization is a never-ending process. Nyman et al.’s paper suggests to use the data-driven technology for strengthening workers’ position in working life, learning from history of Participatory Design (PD).
In this commentary I want to add to the PD history with lessons from the Florence project, providing a different view on what we can learn from history as well as how PD could address algorithmic management.
