Abstract

This study investigates the use of an AI tutor as a teaching assistant in a master’s level university course to improve learning outcomes by increasing student motivation. Grounded in Self-Determination Theory, the research explores how AI integration impacts students’ motivation and learning outcomes. Preliminary findings from qualitative data indicate positive effects on student engagement, discussion quality, and personalized support. The study employs a mixed-methods approach, including surveys, group discussions, and interviews, to provide comprehensive insights into the potential benefits and challenges of AI integration in higher education. Results are expected to contribute to the growing body of knowledge on AI in education and offer practical insights for educators implementing AI tools in their teaching practices.
