Abstract

In an era where Artificial Intelligence (AI) profoundly influences various industries, its impact on employees' well-being has become a critical area of investigation. This work-in-progress study aims to explore the dual-edged effects of AI integration in the workplace, focusing on how perceptions of psychological contracts and social exchange relationships shape employee well-being. Utilizing the Psychological Contract Theory (PCT) and Social Exchange Theory (SET), the research investigates the extent to which AI tools influence employees' mental, emotional, and physical well-being. Through in-depth interviews with employees from diverse sectors such as academia, industry, and healthcare, this qualitative study seeks to identify key themes related to job satisfaction, stress, and perceived job security in the context of AI adoption. The expected outcome is a comprehensive understanding of how AI impacts employee well-being, enhancing job performance but also causing anxiety, skill upgrade needs, and potential psychological contract breaches. This study’s contribution is to provide actionable insights for organizations to support their workforce during AI integration, ultimately fostering a balanced and healthy work environment.
