Description

Big data analytics (BDA) has been introduced to Malaysian public sector agencies since 2013. Assessment of BDA implementation the public sector agencies using a BDA maturity model specific to the public sector domain can provide insights for organizations to plan and execute improvement strategies. This paper presents preliminary results of an assessment involving 53 public sector agencies of various types and levels. The results indicate a wide range of maturity levels but concentrated at maturity levels 2 and 3. Agencies in some sectors have higher maturity levels. All dimensions have a wide spread of maturity levels indicating a diversity in terms of BDA implementation approach. This study contributes in terms of enriching the understanding of BDA in the public sector domain and provides practical use of assessment results for agencies.
