Description

Self-management of chronic illness for culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) individuals is challenging because of language, cultural, and socioeconomic barriers. Digital technology offers the potential to support chronic illness self-management in CALD individuals by bridging language barriers and providing an accessible alternative that is not bound by physical or systemic constraints. However, digital health is still underutilised by CALD individuals despite the high adoption of mobile technology. In this study, we review relevant literature to understand how digital technology for chronic illness self-management is developed for and utilised by CALD individuals. Based on the literature review, we identify knowledge gaps in the study of digital health for chronic illness self-management for CALD populations. In addition, we propose five propositions and establish an agenda for our future study.
