Description
International students often face challenges, such as language barriers and adapting to new academic environments, that may impede their academic success. This research-in-progress investigated how Generative AI tools like ChatGPT can assist international students in Liverpool in overcoming these obstacles. Grounded in Cognitive Load Theory and Social Cognitive Theory, we conducted semi-structured interviews with international students to gather insights into their experiences with ChatGPT. Preliminary findings revealed that ChatGPT enhances academic performance by improving writing skills, facilitating understanding of complex materials, and providing personalised learning support. However, concerns about over-reliance and potential inaccuracies in AI-generated content were noted. This study underscores the potential of Generative AI while highlighting the need for ethical considerations and accountable usage.
