Description

With the development of artificial intelligence (AI), AI robots are introduced in the manufacturing industry to support workers. However, this emergence has brought a double-sided impact. While AI robots can enhance employees’ productivity, they can also be seen as a threat due to job replacement. Existing studies have separately explored both the negative and positive impacts of AI, but they ignore that the different roles of AI do not exist independently. AI’s dual roles can cause employees to have ambivalent emotions and lead to various responses. Therefore, this paper explains how employees adapt to the facilitator-substitute paradoxical roles of AI in the manufacturing industry. Based on the coping theory, this paper proposes two coping strategies to deal with the impact of AI, exploring how to maximize benefits and minimize threats to promote innovative performance.
