Description
The global aging population is driving demand for accessible digital tools, with online shopping gaining popularity among older adults. This study investigates the effectiveness of "Elderly Mode" interfaces in online shopping apps, focusing on how menu navigation enhances search performance for elderly users. Grounded in Cognitive Load Theory and cognitive aging research, we designed two laboratory experiments to examine the impact of menu navigation on goal-directed and exploratory search tasks, as well as the moderating role of task complexity. The study advances IS literature by addressing elderly-oriented design from a cognitive perspective and provides practical insights for creating inclusive online shopping experiences tailored to the aging population.
