Description

Vehicle-to-grid (V2G) is an emerging technology that allows electric vehicles (EVs) to feed electricity back into the grid and provide additional flexibility in energy systems with high shares of volatile renewable sources. User data is fundamental for V2G to optimize grid stability and maximize the economic benefits of the system. However, there is a lack of insight into the willingness of users to share data in the V2G context. The present study analyzes 15 interviews with German EV users on what data they are willing to share, their motivations, and concerns. The results show that users are generally willing to share data for V2G purposes. In contrast to previous studies on data sharing in the EV context, monetary incentives play a secondary role for V2G, while environmental and social benefits are the main motivators. The main user concerns are target marketing and unauthorized tracking.
