Description

Due to the limited capability (the second-level digital divide), older adults' usage proportion of online medical consultation is smaller, but prior studies haven't explored how to address this problem. This paper, grounded on social support theory and uncertainty reduction theory, explores the effect of offline and online social support on older adults' capability improvement in adopting online medical consultation. There are two main contributions. First, the empirical findings provide new insight into how to reduce the age-based digital divide. Second, the findings enrich the application of social support theory and uncertainty reduction theory by revealing the different effects of social support on different age groups.
