Description
Big data analytics (BDA) has been promoted and utilized in organizations across different industries over the last two decades. Organizations, having invested substantial resources, require some understanding of BDA progress. To achieve this, maturity models can be utilized to measure the maturity level besides providing insights for organizations to plan and execute improvement strategies. This paper reviews existing BDA-related maturity models from academia and industry to extract BDA maturity dimensions. This is followed by application of structuration theory to the dimensions as an attempt to provide a theoretical base for future development of a maturity model. The contributions from this research are expansion of theoretical knowledge related to BDA maturity dimensions. Secondly, the preliminary work on structuration theory application in BDA and maturity model domains extends the theory’s existing body of work. Future research includes BDA maturity model development and validation, and assessment of BDA maturity.
