Description
With the increasing development of online healthcare services, a dual-channel healthcare model, where offline hospital channels are supplemented by online healthcare channels, has attracted many academic and industrial interests. However, it is still unknown whether this healthcare model can help alleviate important issues such as “difficult and expensive access to medical care”. By using a Panel Vector Auto-regressive Model, this paper explores the effect of a dual-channel healthcare model on the number of patients and service costs in offline hospitals. Our study found that the number of patients in online channels is associated with fewer offline outpatients and inpatients, which can alleviate the problem of “difficult access to medical care”. Moreover, the dual-channel healthcare model can also reduce the costs of outpatient and inpatient services, thereby alleviating the problem of “expensive access to medical care”.
