Abstract

The German job market is highly developed and requires skilled talents. Therefore, decent education is often required to have a suitable place in the market. Many refugee newcomers have already acquired their education in their home-countries, and earned some level of professional experience. Yet, the statistics show that newcomers face many obstacles entering the German job market. Against this background, we investigate the current opportunities and limitations in engaging immigrants, mainly refugee newcomers, in educational programs and in the local German job market, in particular in the ICT sector. In the context of our research, we investigated the use case of the ReDI School of Digital Integration. In this paper, we introduce the context and background, a collected dataset, and our conducted interview with the Chief Operating Officer. Our results reveal how to foster the integration of the refugees in the German society. This research contributes to the learnings that can be used and communicated to other stakeholders, in particular, governmental offices, NGOs, and companies.
