Abstract

Digital twins enable better usage and usability of data in complex environments such as supply chain networks as the base for better decision-making, creating a higher performance. However, the antecedents of digital twins and related use cases, strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats are not addressed sufficiently from a theoretical and practical perspective. In contrast, using digital (supply chain) twins proposes financial and competitive advantages for firms. Thus, the workshop aims to explore the transformative potential of digital twins. It addresses barriers and benefits for better decision-making, risk mitigation, or process optimization. It complements topics such as analytics, simulation capabilities, usability, technology acceptance, IT security, or the ethical and philosophical perspective. Besides engaging scholars in digital twins, the workshop aims to create an agenda for teaching, (applied) research, industrial usage, and processes to transfer and build up capabilities in the domain of digital twins and the industrial metaverse.
