Abstract
More than 70 years after the term Artificial Intelligence (AI) was first coined, AI now transforms people’s day-to-day lives with continuous innovation. AI is an emerging research field with the potential to revolutionize every business industry. Today, corporations are using AI for decision-making through various sophisticated data analysis, synthesis, and pattern recognition. As AI continues to be increasingly used, the question of whether the AI itself, or the decisions recommended by the AI are biased. Can software created by humans carry human biases? In this paper, we outline a systematic literature review on the major areas investigated on the topic of AI and bias in decision making. We finish with a look at the potential for future research contributions in this area.
