Abstract

Can generative AI be used to leapfrog ahead of other firms using other technologies? This paper investigates using a large language model (LLM) to build a business application. The analysis uses an LLM to both build and use an ontology for contracts, while leapfrogging an existing AI system built to read contracts. The company uses information from that system to build an application that appears more robust than earlier systems. In so doing, the case allows investigation of several emerging issues associated with building ontology-driven systems. Further, the case allows us to investigate the development of other applications and assess the risks associated with those applications. Finally, this analysis allows us to drill down on some issues associated with AI strategic alignment.

Leapfrogging Ahead with Generative AI
