Abstract

Generative AI (GenAI) can generate digital content that matches or even surpasses human-generated results. At the same time, the broad and easy accessibility to GenAI makes it easier for non-technical users to work with it. This offers a wide range of potential use cases for organizations. However, identifying and assessing beneficial use cases for GenAI can be complex. The limited practical evidence and research results further complicate the assessment of added value. Furthermore, the technological landscape is very dynamic and GenAI specific characteristics must be considered. Therefore, we developed a procedure model based on literature, interviews, and an evaluation workshop in cooperation with an IT consulting organization through three iterations following the design science research paradigm. We derived a structured yet flexible procedure model taking into account the adapting dynamics and provide an assessment process including supportive tools, which considers feasibility and added value for GenAI use cases.

Identifying and Assessing Organizational Use Cases for Generative AI: A Procedure Model
