Abstract
The accelerating climate crisis demands novel approaches to harnessing digital technologies for environmental sustainability. While Information Systems (IS) research has begun examining environmental sustainability through the lenses of Green IT and Green IS, the broader phenomenon of digital sustainability still faces a lack of conceptual clarity. To address this gap, we conduct a literature review on the phenomenon of digital sustainability in IS literature. Drawing on a sample of 40 scholarly works, this study synthesizes insights into the antecedents, moderators, and consequences of digital sustainability. We present a multidimensional framework for investigating sustainable value creation, offering a comprehensive lens to understand how digital resources and artifacts can be utilized for environmental objectives. We conclude with a research agenda offering three avenues for advancing our understanding of digital sustainability.
