Abstract
Lead users are recognized as particularly valuable contributors to the digital innovation process. This study proposes a novel framework for identifying lead users on social media by leveraging a generative AI approach. The framework’s core innovation is a dual-layer feature integration, combining GenAI-based semantic trait scoring with behavioral feature analysis, which enables scalable lead user detection on social media. The framework was evaluated using Reddit data, demonstrating the feasibility of the approach. This study contributes by (1) presenting a framework that integrates semantic and behavioral layers for lead user identification, and (2) showcasing the value of GenAI for this task, highlighting the potential of large language models (LLMs) for digital innovation.
