Abstract

This research study compares human practitioners to large language models (LLMs) to examine cognitive thinking and personality traits using the Big Five personality framework when creating or generating the programme or coding. Data were collected for the 10 different LLMs and 20 human practitioners (developers or programmers) using semi-structured questionnaires through prompts and face-to-face interviews, and data were analysed using qualitative data analysis techniques such as thematic analysis and content analysis, using NVivo software. The results of the study show that openness, conscientiousness and agreeableness are significant personality traits in LLMs, such as problem solving, adaptation to new technologies, proficiency in multiple programming languages and creative approach. Developers or programmers have high personality traits such as extraversion and neuroticism, such as team dynamics, leadership, team commitment, anxiety, stress, overthinking and happiness at work.
