Description
Our world faces great challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Keeping in the spirit of societal impact during this time, we probe the transformative potential of data in fighting global pandemics. This paper examines data philanthropy and its impact on global health outcomes when mediated through digital epidemiology. Data philanthropy is the sharing and collaboration of private data resources with external institutions while digital epidemiology is the study of epidemics that employs big data methods and non-traditional data sources for medical research. We find that data philanthropy positively impacts global health when mediated through digital epidemiology. Employing positivist qualitative case research methods, we study the linkages between health, data, and corporate social responsibility.
