Description

In the digital age, many organizations are investing heavily in big data analytics (BDA) initiatives. However, organizations and people can become easily lost in big data, because massive data leads to constraints of emergence of valuable BDA affordances. Extant research is mainly based on the hypothesis that actualized affordances should been identified and effective first, which failed to address the challenges. Thus, we fill the gap by conducting an in-depth case study of effective development of a BDA system in a large-scale corporation group and its one subsidiary. We have preliminarily revealed a process model of affordance discovery to mitigate constraints and actualize effective affordances. Our study is in progress and the preliminary findings may extend technology affordance-related theory and contribute to the literature of BDA systems development.

Affordance Discovery to Create Value from Massive Data: A Process Model of BDA Affordance Exploration, Exploitation and Systemization
