Description
IT governance scholars have increasingly voiced concerns about the static view of organizational life adopted in IT governance research and called for attention to the complex, dynamic nature of IT affairs. In response to this call, some researchers have responded by focusing instead on the doing of IT governance. The aim of this study is to argue why and demonstrate how these divergent views can be reconciled and jointly extended from a consistent theoretical view. This involves shifting from the idea of pre-existing governance frameworks to the idea that governance structures and actions are co-constituted. Our provisional findings, reflected in an event structure model of IT governing, reveal interesting and useful insights. We discuss the implications of our provisional findings and the future work required to flesh it out.
